The price of oil finally fell this week below $75 a barrel and might still go lower. This was something I was almost afraid to dream about again in lifetime. What a blessing. While driving this week and noting the numbers at the pump I was impressed to whisper thanks to God. In reply you may insist that the falling gas prices are not a “blessing from God,” but just circumstance.

I am persuaded that, in God, we serve the most humble Being in the universe. Meaning, He will pour out blessings without ever taking credit for them. He will extend protection with out ever admitting it. He hides miracles in happenstance.

The 19th century Russian novelist, Fyodor Dostoevsky, identifies this when he points out “faith does not… spring from the miracle, but the miracle from faith.”  That is, faith is not a result of a miracle but miracles can be seen by faith. That’s how it is possible for two individuals two individuals to see the same incident and one to say “praise the Lord” and the other to not see beyond circumstance.

Because God is humble, and will not take credit that I am not by my own free-will choosing to give Him, I would rather, if possible, to over praise Him, then to miss to thank Him for something He has done.

In special reflection of today, I praise God for the blessings of the years I spent in Christian schooling and I praise God for the sacrifice my parents and others made to give me that privilege. Today, the Great Appointment, is a Sabbath set aside to help young people attend our junior academy. Consider with me making a sacrifice.
