It was Inauguration day and three past presidents and the current president were on hand to witness president-elect Barack Obama take the oath of office which would officially make him the 44th president of the United States. It was moving: the beautiful music, the cheer of the crowd, and even the worldwide web was stirring with play-by-play reactions to each part of the program. Senator Dianne Feinstein captured my thoughts in her opening remarks concerning the “peaceful transition of power.” This was demonstrated when men and women of all political and religious persuasions sat together to witness this very event. The transition of power is not always that peaceful, whether it is on a political or a spiritual level. Simply put, power is never relinquished easily. Living in a democracy, one might be tempted to think that this can be attained without difficulty, but the reality is that there is an ongoing daily spiritual battle for the power or control in our lives. This battle is fiercer than any primary or presidential election. We have to stay in the fight and someday Jesus will come and there will be a cosmic transition of power. It will be a battle, I know... But YES HE CAN
