It could be…
… a Navy SEAL making a difficult shot that saves the captain of a ship from his pirate captors.
… the school nurse who died after saving the life of the softball coach by giving him CPR.
Or it could be you.
Most don’t make the CNN headlines… but when you do what you feel called to do for a community, that makes you a hero.
Growing up the son of a volunteer firefighter and the grandson of a paid firefighter, I was convinced that you could not do better in life than to be a fireman. I was in heaven when we visited the station and my dad would walk me down to the bay where I was intoxicated by the smells and enraptured by being so close to the engines.
I will never forget my dad letting me ride with him when he was tapped out to meet the fire truck for a reported grassfire in our neighborhood. These guys my dad and grandfather served with probably didn’t even get the local headlines, but they were my heroes.
We admire the extraordinary, but we must not forget to marvel at the mundane… and today we choose to marvel. So to those who look out for the less fortunate, come to our aid in a moment of crisis, keep us safe, or work behind the scenes organizing and planning for the good of our community – you are our heroes
And if we haven’t told you… We praise God for you.

"MOM'S MY HERO"
I've now concluded
after giving it much thought;
For all people a hero is sought.
Inspired by many,
some more so than another.
But none so much as my dear Mother.
It's taken these years
to realize her full impact,
But she's my hero and that's a fact.
She showed us love,
and taught us wrong from right,
Always keeping our future in sight…
She taught love of God above
and fear of Satan below.
No doubt... My mom is my hero!!!
