Pastor's Blog - 02/16/2008
While waiting out the ice storm this week in the office my thoughts turned to the world news. The now well-known name of Darfur made the headlines again. The fighting in the Sudanese region of Darfur has caused a new wave of an estimated 12,000 refugees just this week. This comes of course in addition to the hundreds of thousands that already claim that title. I couldn’t help but become fixated on the words “they are tired of being attacked” spoken by a UN agent. I wonder, what do these persons think of God? They are experiencing what is antithetical to love in ways I never have. Reading the news release I could almost hear their whisper: “Just stop hurting us.” How does this all factor into their view of God? We can’t argue with the certainty that what happens in life changes or at least threatens to change our view of God. Afraid of the answer to the questions posed, I moved on to another query. If this was happening to them, what were God’s feelings for them? Before you or I settle for the riposte “God loves them,” think about the truth and the practical application of that. If in all that they have experienced and felt, we know the truth to be that God loves them, then why are we so slow to believe He LOVES US? In this week of celebrating love, I remind you… God is in love with you.
