Pastor's Blog - 04/05/2008
A week ago I was in Paris with a pastor friend and was excited to have the time to visit the LouvreMuseum that contains some of the finest collections of art. Even after logging in several hours we hadn’t even seen half of what there was. Of course, the one piece that made my nine Euro entry fee worth it was Leonardo da Vinci’s Portrait of Mona Lisa. I admit my ignorance when I tell you that, while pushing through the crowd to get as close as possible, I asked my colleague why this painting was so famous above all the other incredible pieces of art we had seen. I then learned that artists consider the expression of the Mona Lisa as the most perfect smile to be put on canvass. And that was why, there in the large room in Paris, there were hundreds of people packed together.
This experience actually reminded me of David’s testimony (Psalm 40:3). He wrote, “God gave me a praise song and many will see it and will trust in the Lord.” As Mona Lisa will tell you, a smile will attract the crowds; likewise, David says praising God will draw others. That is, it will draw others to Jesus. That makes the act of praising God a powerful outreach tool.
