This week I attended a conference focused on disaster preparedness for community faith leaders.  It was good. I learned a lot, and I feel better acquainted with the process of dealing with disasters.

We are literally besieged with the subject of disaster.  While I write, I am told that the Prince of Peace Baptist Church in Philadelphia is being destroyed by fire.  This week the country of China mourns for those injured and lost in a train crash.  And the count goes on.  Today, more than even yesterday, I praise God that when He promised to be with us, He included –“even until the end of the world.”

At the conference, Dr. Meredith Allen from the Bucks County Department of Health addressed disaster on the personal health level. “When we are dealing with an epidemic and you get sick,” she said, “we want you to stay at home and be isolated.” As good of a plan as this may be, it is not the remedy for the pandemic of sin.  The solution to that problem is community with God and one another…  Sounds a little like church doesn’t it?  It would be very callow of us to complain of each other’s sins, for we are all infected.

Being a sinner is at the very foundation of being a Christian.  That’s part of our new sermon series starting May 10.

Please, dear Christian, if you are feeling any level of personal disaster, don’t isolate yourself. Don’t stay at home.
