Pastor's Blog - 05/17/2008
While in Washington D.C. with my family this past Sunday, we decided to visit the United States Botanic Garden. I see it as the official garden of our country. What an amazing experience of floral wonder! At the end of our tour through paradise in a greenhouse, we encountered a monument with a quote from the English poet Alfred Austin. It read, “Show me your garden… and I will tell you what you are like.” I was exposed... Just the week before, I had planted my own little garden. It looks a certain shade of pathetic. I did it while it was raining and the dirt, rather mud, stuck to my shoes and shovel making it impossible to smooth anything out. Instead of being spotted with ferns and orchids it is surrounded by marigolds (standing guard against the rabbits). I didn’t have any medicinal or endangered plants of fantastic colors and smells, just corn and carrots.
I guess my little plot lays me bare… and you too. Just for now. But if Mr. Austin wants to know what we will become, he needs to read the garden described in the beginning of Genesis and at the end of Revelation. God has not quit the work of creating… Remember, He grew the Garden of Eden and Adam from the same dirt. He told us He is gone for now, to prepare a perfect place for us; and when He takes us there, it will still be perfect.
