Pastor's Blog - 2008/10/04
.

In the past two weeks we have all had to add the new word “bailout” to our vocabulary.  And then we have heard a price tag of $700 billion referred to like it would be the equivalent of a poor family buying a new home.  We felt the waves as fear gripped Wall Street this week, when on Monday the Dow cascaded in its biggest single drop.  Some “experts” are calling this only a crisis while many see it as a disaster.  It is discombobulating.

To be certain, I don’t know if this is what sends the world into collapse.  I don’t know if or how much better it will get before it gets worse.  While I was praying this week, a verse came to the front of my mind:  “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.  In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again… that were I am, there you may be also.” (John 14:1-3) How very apropos for us today, in the context of a failing real-estate market, for Jesus to give the promise of mansions.

It is impossible to ignore the pronounced signs and their increase in quantity and intensity.  But as true as it was to the disciples in their volatile day, it is true right now – Let not your heart be troubled.

There is only one trouble Jesus ever wants us to carry, the burden the Holy Spirit can give us for telling everyone, in and outside the church, the Truth.
